Community Assist Award Winners
Every month, the NBA chooses one player from across the league for the Community Assist Award. The award honors the NBA player who best reflects the passion that the league and its players have for giving back to their communities. This player is recognized for his outstanding efforts in the community and for his ongoing philanthropic and charitable work. The NBA has named Celtics All-Star guard Ray Allen the recipient of the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for January iin part for his efforts in supporting U.S. soldiers overseas and his commitment to supporting community-based programs for local youth and families.
The NBA has named Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph the recipient of the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for December in recognition of his outstanding efforts in the community and his ongoing philanthropic and charitable work during the NBA Cares Season of Giving.
The NBA is honoring Deron Williams in part for his community outreach efforts during the NBA Cares Season of Giving. On Thanksgiving eve, Williams and his nonprofit Point of Hope Foundation hosted a special holiday dinner for more than 3,300 Salt Lake City residents in need at EnergySolutions Arena.
The NBA has named New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul the recipient of the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for the month of October in part for launching the CP3 Afterschool Zone, which provides New Orleans youngsters with hands-on educational opportunities and a safe environment to learn and play after school hours. This marks Paul’s third NBA Cares Community Assist Award.
The NBA has named Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade the recipient of the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for the 2010 offseason in recognition of his outstanding efforts in the community and his ongoing philanthropic and charitable work. This marks Wade's third NBA Cares Community Assist Award.
Portland Trail Blazers forward/center Juwan Howard has been named the recipient of the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for April. Howard is being honored for his work in his hometown of Chicago, where the Juwan Howard Foundation and the Chicago Public Schools Literacy Challenge reaches more than 30,000 fourth- through eighth-grade students annually.
Memphis Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay has been named the recipient of the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for March. The NBA is honoring Gay for his role in the Hoops for St. Jude campaign and hosting the third consecutive season of Staxtacular, an event that benefits the Stax Music Academy.
